Tongji urban planning institute joins consortium for Hanoi's centennial vision master plan
The People's Committee of Hanoi, Vietnam, has recently signed a consulting contract with an international consortium, including the Shanghai Tongji Urban Planning & Design Institute Co Ltd, to compile the capital's comprehensive master plan, with a vision extending 100 years.
As an important consulting unit within the consortium, the Shanghai institute's involvement underscores the deepening of professional and technical exchanges between China and Vietnam under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Formally endorsed by the Hanoi People's Council in December 2025, the capital master plan with a 100-year vision is designed to harmonize municipal expansion with broader regional and sectoral objectives.
According to the institute, it has committed to mobilizing the academic and technical weight of Tongji University to make a plan that can gain both regional influence and international prestige.
Earlier, a delegation led by the executive vice-chairman of the People's Committee of Hanoi visited the institute's headquarters in Shanghai. During the visit, both parties signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate bilateral cooperation.
The Shanghai institute has already deployed a specialized technical team to Hanoi, operating under the unified direction of the Hanoi municipal government.
The institute has long been involved in Chinese domestic planning, having contributed to major national strategies and community-level renewals across the country. Now, it is increasingly looking outward to share the Chinese experience in urban governance.
