Hainan to open duty-free daily goods shops
The first batch of daily consumer goods duty-free shops for island residents in Hainan province is scheduled to open on Wednesday, according to a news conference on Friday. The policy is being implemented through a phased rollout and gradual expansion, with plans to first establish duty-free shops for consumer goods in the three prefecture-level cities of Haikou, Sanya and Danzhou, the provincial information office said. Following a comprehensive assessment of factors such as population size, consumption habits, commercial infrastructure and transport connectivity, the layout for the first five daily consumer goods duty-free shops will be three in Haikou, one in Sanya, and one in Danzhou.
City sees over 320 new tech firms daily
Shanghai vigorously promoted scientific and technological innovation last year, with an average of more than 320 new tech firms established daily across the city in East China, according to the annual session of its municipal people's congress. According to the municipal government work report, Shanghai's expenditure on R&D as a share of the city's GDP reached approximately 4.5 percent in 2025.
