ON THE OCCASION OF THE CHINESE LUNAR NEW YEAR

Your Excellency,

Dear Mr. President,

On the auspicious occasion of the Chinese New Year, it is with great pleasure that I convey my warmest greetings and those of the Government and the people of the Republic of Cyprus for good health, prosperity and continued progress to the People's Republic of China and its people.

As we welcome the Year of the Horse, we are reminded of the enduring symbols it embodies; Power, Loyalty, Resilience. These same qualities have long shaped and strengthened our fifty-five-years of diplomatic relations. And it is my sincere hope and wish that our shared pursuit of stability and prosperity will continue to guide our friendship and cooperation for the years to come.

As Cyprus holds the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union during the first six months of 2026, we remain firmly committed to promoting constructive and meaningful dialogue between the European Union and China on issues of common concern, guided by respect and a shared sense of global responsibility.

Given this opportunity, I would also like to extend my personal appreciation for China's principled stance on the Cyprus problem and its support to our efforts to achieve a comprehensive and viable solution fully in line with international law and the relevant UN Resolutions; a solution that safeguards the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus. I also wish to reaffirm our unwavering adherence to the One?China Policy.

May the New Year bring the People's Republic of China continued 'forward momentum' and may the relations between our countries continue to flourish for generations to come.
