Southwest China's Yunnan province retained its position as the country's leading exporter of coffee in both volume and value in 2025, contributing more than 40 percent to the nation's total coffee exports, according to recently released customs data.

Yunnan exported 19,000 metric tons of coffee with a value of 860 million yuan ($120 million) in 2025, Kunming Customs said. Shipments were sent to 43 countries and regions, including the Netherlands, Vietnam, Germany, Malaysia, and France, as well as new markets like Kyrgyzstan and Slovenia.

In the warehouse belonging to Yunnan Xiyin Coffee, a shipment of small-grain coffee, having passed the local inspection by customs officers, is ready to be sent abroad. This batch of coffee beans consists of four new varieties processed by the company using a special washing technique, with a selling price nearly three times that of regular first-grade coffee beans in the current market.

Yunnan Xiyin is the first coffee company from Baoshan to enter the high-end international market for premium beans, according to Wang Yihan, the head of the company.

Yunnan has cultivated a variety of high-quality coffee beans, with Baoshan small-grain coffee beans serving as a prime example, according to local officials.

Muhamad Akmal Bin Abdul Wahab, the consul general of Malaysia in Kunming, said that tea and coffee in Yunnan are different from those in other provinces, with coffee from Baoshan being one of his current favorites.
