At the Xiamen Free Trade Zone, a transformation driven by innovation and green development is shaping a new blueprint for sustainability — from comprehensive green upgrades in port logistics and accelerated digitalization in shipping operations to actively seizing international opportunities in the green economy.

Xiamen FTZ recently signed an agreement to bring in the UN Sustainable Business Innovation Laboratory, helping Xiamen align with global green trade standards. In July 2025, it also supported the launch of the nation's first "ESG (environmental, social, and governance) Report Verification Fee Compensation Insurance" — a pioneering initiative designed to bolster Xiamen's drive to become a leading ESG city in China.

As of now, Haicang Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone has built 15 sets of high-voltage shore power facilities and 27 low-voltage shore power connection points, ensuring all eligible ships can connect to shore power and achieving full coverage of shore power for container terminal vessels.

Meanwhile, as the country's first zero-carbon comprehensive bonded zone, the zero-carbon pilot project of Xiangyu Comprehensive Bonded Zone has been included in the national zero-carbon pilot initiative.

Complementing the green energy-driven port infrastructure are Xiamen's initiatives to optimize shipping services. For instance, the Xiamen FTZ pioneered a "certification without operational stoppage" model for vessels, reducing processing time from 28 days to as little as two days. It has also promoted "single-document" multimodal transport operations and introduced the nation's first guideline for the safe maritime transport of containerized lithium battery energy storage systems.
