Four people died and several were injured in indiscriminate bomb grenade and knife attacks in Taipei, Taiwan on Friday, according to local media reports.

The attacker was among the dead.

The chaos began at approximately 5:30 pm at Taipei Main Station when a man wearing a gas mask detonated smoke grenades near one of the station's exits. In the ensuing panic, two individuals were transported to the hospital. One of them, a 57-year-old man, was later pronounced dead, while the other, a 54-year-old man, remains hospitalized.

The suspect then fled to Zhongshan MRT Station, continuing his rampage by throwing smoke grenades and attacking people with a knife, where seven more people were injured.

The attacker entered a shopping complex and leaped from a height equivalent to six floors, resulting in his death, local media reported.

Police have formed a task force to investigate the attack, reviewing surveillance footage and examining the smoke grenades' origin, the suspect's escape route, and potential targets.
