"It's now the start of the peak period for southbound flocks heading to Poyang Lake for the winter," Wang said. "Rare species such as the white crane are expected to arrive by the end of October or early November."
Each year, from late September to February, hundreds of thousands of wintering birds descend on the Poyang Lake wetlands. This annual phenomenon draws ornithologists, conservationists, and tens of thousands of tourists for research and observation.
