Peking University wants students to work at grassroots level, realize their core values
Peking University in Beijing offers highly focused and comprehensive career planning services to its graduates to help them realize their personal values at grassroots positions, or in key areas of national defense and military and international organizations.
The university aims to encourage the youths to work at the grassroots level in some State-level programs, like advancing the development of western provinces or vitalizing the economy of northeastern provinces, by setting up funds and giving the students financial subsidies, according to a release by the university's student career center.
An employment promotion program called "Red, Green and Blue" has been in progress at the university since 2018, with Red representing grassroots positions, Green national defense and military-related jobs, and Blue referring to job opportunities at international organizations.
The release said the university has also optimized its career services by taking advantage of new age technologies like AI, using which the students can improve their resumes and get interview practices, besides the latest information about jobs and industries.
Figures cited in the release show that in 2024, over 10 percent of the university's graduates landed grassroots jobs in the western and northeastern provinces.
The number of graduates taking up positions in the nation's key areas, including national defense, advanced manufacturing and new energy, also saw a rise in 2024. About 10 percent of the graduates were admitted to State-owned enterprises safeguarding national security and economic stability.
