The Month of Francophonie celebrates the French language and cultural diversity of Francophone communities throughout China. Each March, this event showcases different activities arranged by the Beijing French Institute in partnership with the embassies and consulates of various French-speaking nations in China, such as France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, Gabon, Guinea, Lebanon, Tunisia, and other Francophone regions.

The 29th edition is themed "Francophonie in the feminine" — celebrating the feminization of words, the creative power of women and their major role in Francophone societies. This year's event raises female voices that embody the diversity and dynamism of the Francophone world through literature, poetry, writing, cinema, dance, exhibitions and lecture.

Activities include an exhibition showcasing female writers' pieces worldwide, French movie screenings, literature roundtables, food workshops and tastings, a breaking dance tour, and French song and poem contests.

H.E. Bruno Angelet, the Belgian ambassador to China and president of the Group of Francophone Ambassadors, hopes the event will make a positive impact both in and out of diplomatic circles and promote cultural exchanges among countries. "Through this multicultural network, we aim to bridge connections and showcase the unique appeal of Francophone cultures to broader Chinese audiences," Angelet added.

Shang Wenjie, a Chinese singer-songwriter and French major graduate of Fudan University, has sustained her passion for French. She was elected ambassador of the 29th edition of the event. "Throughout my musical journey, Francophone culture has inspired and enriched me. French is not just a means of expression but also a window to the world," Shang said.
