Argentina national soccer team donates clothes for quake victims
Argentina national soccer team announced on Thursday donation of clothes and down jackets for quake-hit Gansu and Qinghai provinces in China.
"We hope these clothing with the names of Lionel Messi and Angel Di Maria on them will bring warmth to local residents in the two provinces jolted by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake," said the soccer squad on its account on Sina Weibo, a Twitter-like social media platform.
"We will never forget the love and support we got from fans a year ago when Messi-led Argentina won the World Cup. We hope to return similar touching moments to our Chinese fans," added the team.
As of Friday morning, the account had 2.64 million followers and the above post had got nearly 4,000 thumbs-up.
The quake struck Gansu and neighboring Qinghai province late on Monday evening, leaving at least 135 people dead and injuring nearly 1,000. Various bodies and organizations are rushing funds and goods to the provinces.
