A group of about 5,000 migrants from Central and South America is setting out on foot from the southern border of Mexico to the US, most of them from Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Venezuela and other countries. At present, the US is dealing with increasing pressure on its southern border. Customs and Border Protection intercepted nearly 2.1 million illegal crossings at the US southern border in fiscal year 2023.
