Two people who were diagnosed with mpox have been sent to a designated hospital for isolated medical observation and treatment on Saturday in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong province, according to a statement released on Sunday by the provincial center of disease control and prevention.

The patients, both men, are aged 43 and 29 and have mild symptoms.

The pair's nucleic acid tests were found to be positive by the city's center of disease control and prevention and were rechecked by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Saturday.

After a thorough medical examination and combined epidemiological investigation, the patients were found to have contracted the illness.

Medical experts urged residents not to panic, as the risk of spread in local communities is still low, but locals were urged to learn about mpox prevention and take preventive measures.

Those who develop symptoms, including fever and rash, should actively seek medical help and inform staff of their overseas travel and contact history with patients and suspected cases to assist doctors in diagnosis and treatment.
