Hainan province held a conference in Wanning on March 3, announcing that it will build a National Sports Tourism Demonstration Zone.

Li Huiwei, director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Culture, Radio, Film, Television, Publications and Sports, said that the establishment of the national sports tourism demonstration zone in Hainan is not only a means of promoting the integrated development of sports tourism, but could also build Hainan into a world-class international tourism consumption center.

Hainan should promote supply, governance and service quality, and pay attention to how to benefit the sports tourism industry and give it advantageous distinctive characteristics and strong competitiveness in the free trade port, according to Li.

"We will also make high-quality development in the five major areas of sports tourism system integration and innovation, brand sports events, industrial system, venue construction and utilization, and professional talent training," said Li.

In many cities of Hainan province, such as Sanya and Wanning, sports tourism income has become a new economic growth point.
