A Chinese mainland spokesman on Tuesday issued a stern warning against the ruling Democratic Progressive Party not to collude with foreign forces to seek independence.

The Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that China has decided to recall its ambassador to Lithuania and demanded the Lithuanian government recall its ambassador to China.

The announcement came after the Lithuanian government announced its decision to allow Taiwan authorities to open a "representative office" under the name of "Taiwan" despite China's repeated representations and articulation of potential consequences.

"We warned the DPP that it will only suffer the consequences by colluding with foreign forces to seek independence," said Ma Xiaoguang, a spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council.

"No one should underestimate our strong determination, firm will and strong ability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity," Ma said.

There is only one China in the world and Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory, he said, adding that the one-China principle is a universally recognized norm governing international relations and the common consensus of the international community.

"The historical trend of reunification of the Chinese mainland and Taiwan is unstoppable," he added.
