The Beijing weather authority announced on Tuesday that the capital will experience heavy rainfall during the daytime, with some areas seeing thunderstorms.
The coming storm triggered red alerts in three districts in the suburban areas of Shunyi, Pinggu and Miyun.
Red is the most severe level in China's four-tier warning system.
The weather authority issued a Level-III emergency response in anticipation of the storm. It forecasts that thundershowers will continue through Wednesday and Thursday in Beijing.
Beijing West Railway Station reported on its Sina Weibo account that 71 trains were suspended on Tuesday, and Beijing Capital International Airport reported the cancellation of 130 flights as of noon on Tuesday.
