Local hero Osorio wins maiden WTA title in Bogota
BOGOTA -- Local wildcard Maria Camila Osorio won her first WTA tour title on Sunday by beating Slovenia's Tamara Zidansek 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the WTA Copa Colsanitas event in Colombian capital Bogota.
The 19-year-old saved 12 of 13 break points in the third set while converting two of her eight opportunities to take the match in two hours and 48 minutes.
"I still cannot believe that I won the title," said the 2019 US Open girls singles champion.
"I played a really great match against Tamara, and I didn't know how I turned it around because I lost the first set and I was a little bit tight. But yes, I'm super happy and excited because it's going to open up my calendar. I have more options to see and play bigger tournaments," added Osorio, who entered the tournament ranked 485.
The teenager's victory in the clay court event is expected to lift her world ranking to 135 after just 12 matches.
