Arsenal midfielder Elneny tests positive for COVID-19
CAIRO - Arsenal and Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny has tested positive for COVID-19, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) said on Monday.
In a statement, the EFA said Egyptian national team players underwent routine COVID-19 tests upon their arrival in Togo ahead of a 2021 African Nations Championship qualifier, revealing that Elneny was the only player to test positive.
According to the EFA, Elneny is in good condition and has begun the necessary medical protocols for COVID-19 treatment.
The EFA added that the 28-year-old will return to Cairo with his colleagues after the match. However, more preventive procedures will be carried out to maintain the safety of the squad.
On Friday, the EFA announced that Egypt and Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah had also tested positive for COVID-19.
