A champion mother who is going for her third Olympic gold medal at her fourth Games, Wu was bittersweet on Tuesday after learning her preparation for a journey of redemption at the Tokyo Games will take a longer haul following the postponement of the event.

"The No 1 priority is to guarantee that everyone is safe and then comes the success of the Olympics. It seems that my career has to be extended in a way I didn't expect at all," said Wu, who failed to make a historic gold medal three-peat after losing in the quarterfinals at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

As a complete taekwondo fighter with no major flaws, Wu won back-to-back gold in the women's 49kg at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics with her exceptional scoring techniques and elite cardio endurance. After a two-year retirement following her disappointing Rio campaign, Wu, who gave birth to her daughter in July 2017, came back to competition in early 2019 aiming to challenge herself to go for a third Olympic champion run.
