Tibet to promote application of 5G in 2020
Tibet plans to accelerate the application of the 5G network in the region in 2020, according to the regional government's work report published on Tuesday at the ongoing regional people’s congress.
The region plans to enable all seats of its cites and prefectures to be covered by 5G by the end of 2020, said Qizhala, chairman of the regional government, while delivering his government work report.
According to the report, in 2019 the region helped more than 98 percent of its villages gain access to 4G network, fiber optic and broadband internet services.
Along with other provinces, the region has completed the task of telecommunication coverage in rural areas ahead of the schedule set out in the country’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) in 2019.
By the end of November 2019, the region’s telecommunication industry saw revenue of more than 4.51 billion yuan ($650 million) generated from various telecommunication sectors.
The region’s total number of phone subscribers hit 3.96 million and the penetration of phones reached a rate of more than 115 phones for every 100 people, including more than 3.24 million cell phone users by the end of November.
During the same period, the region’s total number of fixed broadband Internet users reached 926,000, an increase of 144,000 from the previous year.
