A handover ceremony for the Laos National Earthquake Data Center project, supported by China, was recently held in Vientiane, capital of Laos.

The earthquake data center has a total area of more than 1,000 square meters. 

Officials said it features computer rooms, an operational control center, management offices, power distribution rooms, other auxiliary rooms and supporting data systems.

It took No 2 Construction Co -- a unit of Shanxi Construction Investment Group based in North China's Shanxi province -- a year to finish after building work began in late November, 2018.

Officials said it represents a breakthrough in expanding into overseas markets by the company, which seized an opportunity brought by the Belt and Road Initiative and promoted its brand advantages.

Together with an earthquake monitoring network now near completion, the data center project will form a real-time and rapid earthquake monitoring system. 

Officials said it will greatly enhance the domestic seismic monitoring and reporting capabilities of Laos -- and promote the construction and improvement of the Lao earthquake disaster defense system.
