The Lost Sheep won the Best Drama Award and the Best Original Screenplay Award at the 3rd China-US International TV Festival on May 9, 2016, becoming the first film set in Gansu to win the China Movie Awards.
People's Daily website called it "a film based on the local community, close to life and rooted in the people. It is the result of filmmakers' deep affection for the land of Lanzhou. Its success is an example for the development of local films to the whole country and to the whole world."
