The streets of Barcelona were ablaze as Catalan independence protests unfolded last week.

Spain witnessed some of its most violent demonstrations in decades.

On Friday, more than 500,000 activists marched in the streets to demonstrate against the sentencing of nine Catalan separatist leaders.

Police struggled to maintain control of the situation, firing rubber bullets and teargas into the crowd.
