149 arrested for illegal protests, violence over weekend
The Hong Kong Police Force on Monday said 149 people were arrested for taking part in illegal protests and committing violent acts over the weekend.
Among them, 15 are classified as "extreme violent rioters". They were arrested in relation to the protests in Causeway Bay on Hong Kong Island on Sunday night.
The police said they classified the 15 suspects due to the fact they were using "lethal weapons".
Deputy Police Commissioner Chris Tang Ping-keung said the police have zero tolerance for violence.
The weekend saw illegal protests in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and New Territories as radical protesters adopted hit-and-run tactics.
A police officer was injured in Tsim Sha Tsui when radical protesters threw a petrol bomb in the police station. An initial diagnosis showed the officer suffered 10 percent second-degree burns on his left leg, and 3 percent first-degree burns on his right.
