Ethiopian women's soccer team eliminates Uganda in 2020 Olympic Games qualifier
KAMPALA - Ethiopian women's national soccer team has eliminated Uganda in the ongoing 2020 Olympic Games qualifier for the Africa region.
The Ethiopian team won the first leg 3-2 on Wednesday in Addis Ababa and humbled Uganda 1-0 in the return leg played here on Saturday to qualify 4-2 on aggregate.
Lora Abera netted the vital goal in the 66th minute to silence the Ugandan crowd and give Ethiopia the lead.
Uganda tried to fight back and pressed for a goal, but the Ethiopians defended well in numbers.
"I am happy that I scored an important goal that gave us a win away from home and qualification to the next round," Ethiopia's scorer Abera told Xinhua after the game.
Uganda's head coach Faridah Bulega was disappointed after the final whistle.
"My team did not play well and we missed several scoring chances," Bulega said.
Ethiopia will face Cameroon in the second round starting on August 26, 2019.
