He was informed of a match with a foreign leukemia patient by the local Red Cross Society in Oct and agreed to the donation without any hesitation.

A special ceremony was organized by his company to honor his selfless behavior the day after his donation. He returned to work less than one week after the procedure.

"It's just like donating blood. I hardly felt any pain," he said.

He added he hoped more people would be inspired by his story and register in the marrow database to help leukemia patients around the world.

According to Li Jianjun, a staff member of Dongguan Red Cross Society, the chances for hematopoietic stem cells match is between one out of 10,000 and one out of a million for unrelated donors and recipients. And for donors and recipients from different countries, the chances are even lower.
