Jiangxi cracks down on illegal hunting
The Jiangxi Provincial Public Security Bureau has launched a three-month campaign combating the illegal hunting of winter migratory birds in the Poyang Lake.
The campaign came into effect on Jan 1 and primarily targets activities such as illegal hunting, acquisition, carrying, transport, hiding, sale of winter migratory birds and related products.
It further targets those involved in illegal fishing, illegal sand mining and other violations of winter migratory birds’ habitat and wetland environment.
Criminal acts will be dealt with in accordance with the law to ensure the ecological security of Poyang Lake.
Jiangxi province has in recent years prioritized the ecological protection of the Poyang Lake area, and has cracked down severely on all kinds of illegal and criminal activities that kill migratory birds.
The province on On Dec 31 brought a case of illegally killing wild migratory birds against six suspects, with all six detained.
