China will never yield to external pressure, and will instead keep encouraging its people to work harder and concentrate on economic development, Vice-Minister of Finance Zhu Guangyao said at a press conference on Wednesday, a few hours after the United States released a new tariff list.

He said external pressure could, on the other hand, motivate and further promote China's self-driven innovation and development.

“We hope the two sides can properly solve the problems and face the challenges in a constructive way, based on our own interests, other than taking self-willed and impulsive actions to deal with the Sino-US economic relationship, which is very important for both countries’ people,” the vice-minister said.
