Growing global influence highlights China's progress
China's consistently growing global influence, as shown in a series of polls on national image, is an indicator of the country's economic prowess, record of shouldering global responsibilities and deepening cross-border cultural exchanges, a senior publicity official said on Friday.
While briefing reporters on China's ethical and cultural progress at the Press Center of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, Sun Zhijun, vice-minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, said the "Chinese miracle", despite the complex international situation, particularly the 2008-09 global financial crisis, has a lot to do with the country's dedication to finding its own development path.
Its notable contribution to global growth aside, China has also championed proposals including the Belt and Road Initiative and a community with a shared future for all mankind while going to great lengths to deal with universal challenges like climate change, cybersecurity and poverty, Sun added.
"That is an apt example of how China fulfills its global commitments as a major country," he said.
China has also made progress in promoting cultural exchanges, from deepened cooperation with foreign media to improved cultural trade services, in the hope that China's institutional vibrancy and the constructiveness of the Chinese plans are better heeded worldwide, said Sun.
To enshrine cultural diversity and expand inter-cultural interaction, "we will strive to develop a new type of international relationship with countries, including the United States, that pivots on respect, justice and win-win cooperation," said Sun.
