A show, featuring handicrafts from East China's Hangzhou city opened at the China Cultural Center in Madrid, Spain on July 18, showcasing the modern development of traditional Chinese craftsmanship.

Titled "New Jiangnan – Innovating Hangzhou's Traditional Handicrafts", the exhibition covers some 200 pieces of artworks from about 10 design brands.

"All the works on exhibition are made of five traditional materials: copper, wood, silk, paper and porcelain," said Yu Jianguo, the general manager of Hangzhou Cultural Exhibition Ltd. Co, adding that they hope to open a roll of pictures presenting Chinese intangible cultural heritage to Spain through these creative designs.

Yu invited the Spanish Craftsmanship Innovation Fund to join the 2018 Hangzhou International Craftsmanship Week to help expand the market for craftsmen in the two countries, increase communication and promote cultural trade.

Liu Wenqiu, cultural attaché of the Chinese Embassy in Spain, said, "The five traditional materials have been part of Chinese people's lives for thousands of years. The handicrafts made out of them record the changes in Chinese history."
