Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Li Xiaoshuang is hoping to become a Hong Kong resident.

The former "prince of gymnastics" was in Hong Kong on Sunday attending a social activity, where he revealed he had submitted documents in November after the "Quality Migrant Admission Scheme" was introduced, and is now awaiting results.

The Olympic champion also expressed willingness to guide Hong Kong gymnasts.

Thirty-three year old Li Xiaoshuang was born in Xiantao in Hubei province. He retired from sports competitions in 1997 and has since been making headway into the entertainment industry.

The "Quality Migrant Admission Scheme" was implemented in Hong Kong last year, aiming to attract talented people to settle in the city.

In November, renowned Chinese mainland pianist Lang Lang became the first Hong Kong resident under the scheme.
